What is the difference between this and that?
This - refers to things that are close to the speaker.
That - refers to things that are away from the speaker.
"Is this your dog?"
"Is that your dog?"
"Is it this way or that way?"
What is the proper way to use "perhaps"?
Maybe and perhaps are adverbs that mean the same thing. We use them when we think something is possible, but we are not certain.
Perhaps is more formal.
"He was, perhaps, a little too smartly dressed for the party"
We are more likely to use maybe at the start of a sentence.
Do you have any tips for homophones? Sometimes I can't here the difference - like with "eyes" and "ice".
air - heir
bare - bear
cell - sell
right - write
near-homophone
accept - except
quite - quiet
won - one
What is the difference between "too" and "also"?
“Also” comes before a single action verb.
"She also likes to read."
"I also speak English."
“Also” comes after a modal or “to be” verb.
"We were also at the party."
"She can also join us."
"He is also going to the cinema."
“Too” is used in positive sentences, but the placement is different.
"Bill can join us. Ben can join us too."
"Bill likes to read books. She likes to read poetry too."
"Too" is also used before an adjective to say there is more of something than you want.
"My tea is too hot."
"My office is too small."
"He is too nice!"
