Share this article with others:
De quoi as-tu besoin pour partir en vacances ?
Hum... mon appareil photo, mon ordinateur, un livre, mon oreiller, un parapluie, un guide touristique, une tente...
Tout ça ?
Are you sure you need that much?
... Euh...
What do you need to go on vacation?!
Je prends seulement mes vêtements.
Et toi tu as besoin d'apprendre un nouveau point de grammaire !
Je prends
seulement
mes vêtements.
I only take my clothes.
Tu perds la tête, je sais déjà utiliser
seulement
!
Regarde :
Je
ne
prends
que
mes vêtements.
I only take my clothes.
Okay, this is new!
Oh, it means the same thing!
To express a restriction in French, you can either use
seulement
or the combination of words
ne... que
.
They have the same function in a sentence, but they cannot be placed in the same spot!
Je
prends
seulement
mes vêtements.
Je
ne
prends
que
mes vêtements.
Je
ne
pars
qu'
a
vec mes vêtements.
Seulement
, follows the verb.
Ne... que...
, is placed like a sandwich on each side of the verb.
Ne... qu'
, precedes a word starting with a vowel.
That seems really, really
facile!
