The subjunctive to express an order or advice
Pour exprimer un ordre ou un conseil, vous pouvez utiliser ces structures :
Il est indispensable que...
It is essential that...
Il faut que...
It is necessary that..
Il est important que...
It is important that…
Il est nécessaire que...
It is necessary that...
J'exige que...
I demand that…
Je refuse que...
I refuse that…
Il faudrait que...
It would be necessary that…
Il vaudrait mieux que...
It would be better if…
Je (ne) souhaite (pas) que...
I (do not) wish that…
All of these are always followed by the subjunctive!
Il est indispensable que tu viennes demain.
It is essential that you come tomorrow.
Il faut que nous appelions notre cliente.
It is necessary that we call our client.
Il est important que vous soyez attentifs.
It is important that you are attentive.
Il est nécessaire qu'ils finissent leur travail.
It is necessary that they finish their work.
J'exige que nous prenions une pause.
I demand that we take a break.
Je refuse que vous fassiez le travail seule.
I refuse that you do the work alone.
Il faudrait que je parte plus tôt ce soir.
I have to leave earlier tonight.
Il vaudrait mieux que tu demandes une augmentation.
It would be better if you asked for a raise.
Je (ne) souhaite (pas) qu'elles engagent un assistant.
I (do not) wish they hired an assistant.
